Established on October 5, 2009; Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point is a preaching point of Gloria Methodist Church Medan at Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands (Kepri). Senggarang is a village of a Chinese community (majority of Teochew ethnics) who builds houses above the sea in the Gulf of Riau.
The development of this preaching point was initiated from a vision and challenge shared by few ministry teams from Batam and Korean Methodist missionary for Indonesia who have served Kepri for the past years. During that time, the pastor in charge of Gloria Methodist Church Medan, Rev. David Wu was leading his mission team to Kepri and was given chance to visit Senggarang to see opportunity for starting a new mission point here. After considering that the need to evangelize the Gospel here, Gloria Methodist Church decided to begin the mission work.
Ms. Rachel Wong, one of the pastoral team members in Gloria Methodist Church Medan, was then sent here to start the ministry at a small house in Jalan Pelantar Kaya No.34, Senggarang. Locals were then suggested to educate them on English language. This input was believed to be the best way to get to know the people of Senggarang.

At the first time, there were only 18 children registered as the students in Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point’s English tuition. As the time goes by, there were increasingly students were sent by their parents to be educated on English language here. Nowadays, we serve more than 70 students from Primary to Junior High School level in improving their capabilities on English language. Children who don’t register as the tuition student is also welcomed to play and have fun in the house where the preaching point is located.
Women (housewives) ministry is the other unseparated mission work which this preaching point serves. Housewives gather and have fellowship in the house every Thursday to Saturday afternoon after they have finished doing the domestic works. Every Saturday at 4pm, the housewives are trained on some skills and training on family relationship and cooking.

On December 26, 2009, we celebrated the first Christmas with the mission team from Gloria Methodist Church Medan. With 40-50 children and housewives, we shared the joy of Christmas with puppet show and cooking demo.

In the upcoming years, Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point expanded the mission works by organizing more events in conjunction with Easter, Indonesia Independence Day, Christmas and our birthday. Students were also educated to love the town where they have been dwelling in since they were born by visiting the Sultan Sulaiman Badrul Alamsyah Museum.
We also thank God for the support from the foreign Methodist mission teams like from South Korea who has been continuously contributed their prayers, efforts and financial support to our mission point. May God bless them abundantly. We always pray that more brothers and sisters can be the prayer companions for Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point so we can always be the channel of blessing for the people in Senggarang.
