Steal A Glance of 2012 Senggarang Kids Festival

Long journey via air, land and sea seems not to be an obstacle to the friends from Methodist Gloria Medan Teen Fellowship as well as the youths from South Korea Methodist Church to participate in the 2012 Senggarang Kids Festival

In Senggarang itself, the preparation of this event has started one month earlier. The kids from the Primary and Secondary have practised few presentations like dancing, singing and memorizing Bible verses. While, the teachers were packing those gifts to be given out on the two days: Monday & Tuesday, 26-27 June 2012.

From Medan, the mission team took flight at 7 am by Lion Air to Batam. At the Batam airport, Ev. Rachel had waited them and directly went with them to Telaga Punggur domestic ferry terminal to take ferry ride to Tanjung Pinang. After lunch at the town, they went directly to the Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point.

The first session was on Monday, 4 pm. About 80 kids and moms came to this session. The Gloria teens led this session with praise and worship, puppet show and Bible story telling which was presented to different classes. The kids’ session was at the main meeting area while at the mission home’s backyard, there was housewives’ session as well. They learnt on how to arrange flower into vase.

After the event, the Medan team took rest for a while as well as took their dinner. Afterwards, the next flower arranging session took place. There were a lot of kids came as well to play and wait for their moms. This long day ended at almost 10 pm.

On the next day, Tuesday-27 June 2012, the second session of the Kids Festival was started at 10.30 am. Like the previous day, the kids and moms had their own session. At this moment, we were glad to welcome the youths from South Korea who joined the happiness in this celebration. The God’s sons and daughters from Medan, Senggarang and South Korea played happily and cooperatively with some games led by the Medan team.   

Tired after playing, the mission teams from both places had their seafood lunch at one of the kelong restaurant in Senggarang. Unfortunately, the South Korea group could not join the last session at the afternoon, so they departed after lunch.

The main session of the 2012 Senggarang Kids Festival was celebrated on Tuesday afternoon at 4 pm. There were already a lot of audiences came even one hour before the event started. The concept of this last session was to and from the participants which meant this event was participated by the people from Senggarang and the Medan team, so each group had to present some items. This session was led by the Secondary students’ group.

The kids from Senggarang presented dance, songs and Bible verse memorizing. From Medan, the team presented a worship song. The unique and unforgettable part of this session was the worship calisthenics. They only practiced the movements at the morning but they seemed to be very happy and energetic when presented this calisthenics.

Before the end of this session, there was prize giving ceremony. For those had received good results on the current semester at the English tuition classes, they were awarded special gifts. For the moms who designed the best flower arrangement, they were also received special rewards. The kids who came on all session, special prizes were also provided for them. As this festival was an joyful event, all the participants went back home happily with gifts and the blessings from our God.

Lastly, we, the workers from Senggarang Preaching Point want to use this chance to express our thanks to the Medan and South Korea team who had visited and contributed to this festival. May God bless our ministry works.

Doughnuts Party @ Thursday Afternoon

Doughnuts can be one of the best tea time friend at the afternoon time. For the kids, doughnuts are their favourite finger foods. Likewise, at Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point, the children and the mothers were happily having the doughnuts feast at Thursday (May 31, 2012) afternoon.

Initiated from Ev. Silpa who wanted to play with the kids from baking doughnuts process, at the end, the teens and the mothers also involved in this celebration.

Around 4 pm, the kids and the mothers were busy to shape the dough which had been prepared before by Ev. Silpa, to the shapes that they wanted. Some made big size, some shaped small size. Some put fillings into the dough with kaya / blueberry jam, even with minced meat.

The shaped dough then were deep fried into the boiling oil. Afterwards, they did put rainbow chocolate rice or sugar on the doughnuts.

When the doughnuts were still hot, these amateur bakers then tried their creativity products. While enjoying a cup of hot tea, they tasted the doughnuts. Some of them even enjoying this finger food with the computer games.

It was really a joyful afternoon when the kids and the moms showed their creativity. They were happy to announce that there will be another session in the near future.

Valentine at Gloria Senggarang

Entering the month of February, many shops in the town of Tanjung Pinang had coloured themselves with pink ornaments. Yup, everybody wanted to celebrate the Valentine Day which falls on February 14 every year. Likewise in Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point, the red Gong Xi Gong Xi ornaments were changed to pink heart shapes with “Jesus Loves You” wording were written there.

This year, we also want to join the celebration of Valentine Day. We celebrated this yearly event on Thursday, February 16, 2012 with three guests from Gloria Methodist Church Medan – who were Rev. Sunaryo (pastor in charge), Rev. Nyoman (assistant pastor in charge) and Mr Cornel Sudargho (one of the church working committee members).

In the main meeting room, the kids were singing – lead by their sisters: Trideny & Mariani, playing games together and listen to the story titled “Pay It Forward”, told by Rev. Nyoman. This story was about how Travor Mc Kicney inspiring people around him to share love with three persons everyday.

Besides, at the house terrace, Rev. Sunaryo gave a short talk on how housewives can share their loves to the family members and people around them.

This celebration was started by 4 pm and ended almost an hour later. At the end of the event, the participants took picture with the Medan team and went back home with Valentine souvenirs. The kids had a pack of snack mixtures and chocolate while the moms had a chocolate bar each.

The 2011 Christmas Happiness in Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point

Today – Saturday, December 17, 2011, we at Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point celebrated 2011 Christmas with the fullness of joy. The celebration of the birth of our Jesus Christ was attended by more than 100 audiences from the students, housewives, brothers and sisters from Tanjung Pinang Filadelfia Methodist Church, some Medan Gloria Methodist Church members who were currently at Senggarang and our special guests from neighboring country.

This 1.5 hour program was prepared by our kids by their own. Two students: Silvia & Etalia led the program as the MCs (master of ceremony).

At 4pm sharp, the Christmas celebration was begun with welcome notes from Ms Rachel and opening prayer. Then, the children praised the God happily with the songs: Walking with Jesus and Jingle Bells.

Afterward, the students from Primary 1 & 2 level presented a song Sing Noel-Noel, then all the audiences were invited to sing this song together. The kids from Filadelfia church also presented a Bahasa Indonesia song Aku Anak Raja (which means I am the child of the King).

The Christmas candles were then lighted up by Ms. Rachel and the representatives from the kids, housewives and guests. The process of lighting up the candles was followed by singing the Silent Night.

The next items were dance presentations from our guest who presented a dance: We are the Reason and dance from the Primary 3-4 & Junior High School students.  

The Christmas message was explained from a drama played by the Junior High School students. This drama told a story of a family reunion in a Christmas Eve as Jesus had forgiven our sins and faults.

This celebration was also to commemorate the end of this academic semester. Two best students with outstanding result from every class received a special gift each as appreciation to their study effort.

At the end of the program, a game: move the rubber ban by using the straws were played with the children.

This Christmas event was ended with a closing prayer, group photo and thank you gift presentation to our guests.

“We thanked God for blessed us a wonderful Christmas this year. We also thanked all parties who had taken part to make this event a success one. Especially to all our guests who had visited and celebrated the Christmas with us, we also want to express our gratitude to them. May God bless you all,” said Ms Rachel.

2012 Ministry Plan @ Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point

We want to thank and praise God for His blessings for us in the past years as He enabled us to develop the ministry works in this place. We prayed that the existence of Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point can be the channel of blessings for more people in Senggarang.

In 2012, the English tuition classes will run as scheduled. In the mid of the year, as the new academic year started in the formal school, we will also promote our students into a new level in the tuition classes. Moreover, we also have planned some special programs to be celebrated together with the people of Senggarang in 2012. The list of the programs are stated below:

Flashback to 2011

Easter was again the first special celebration for this year in Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point. We celebrated it by organizing contemporary dance competition with Christian songs for the teens and Easter egg decorating competition for the kids.

We thanked God for allowing us to renovate the house where the preaching point was situated with financial sponsor from members of Gloria Methodist Church Medan. The renovation involved the changing of the flooring material from wood into concrete with new ceramic tiles as well as extension of some parts of the house so we have wider meeting space and terrace now.

As we have better environment now, we have no more worries if we do not have enough space to accommodate more than 100 audiences during any events organized. On the other hand, the children would have bigger space to play and it would not cause noise pollution anymore to the neighbors as the wood flooring produced a lot of noise when the kids jumped and ran around.

The renovation process took three weeks of June to be completed. On the June 23, 2011, Rev. David Wu, the leading pastor of Gloria Methodist Church Medan dedicated the renovated house to the glory of the God with a thanksgiving service.

In the third Sunday of July (July 17, 2011), it was the memorable day for us as Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point started the first Sunday School service. Averagely, each week, there were around 30 students attended the service. We praised the God with Sunday School songs, we played games before we heard the Bible stories. To attract the students for coming to the Sunday School, we gave a coupon to each student every week. The coupon can be collected and redeemed with eye-catching gifts.

To cultivate a loving heart to their own hometown: Tanjung Pinang; the students were brought on a study trip to visit Sultan Sulaiman Badrul Alamsyah Museum. They learned the history of Tanjung Pinang as well as the Malay culture. This trip was organized on July 27, 2011.

The South Korean Methodist mission team came back to Senggarang again this year at August 3, 2011. Similar to what we had last year, the youths played and shared Christ love with our children. This year, they also presented a skit and a Korean version of Christian song.

To celebrate the 66^th Indonesia Independence Day, we at Senggarang also rejoiced with a lot of traditional games played like crackers eating, hitting the stick, moving the marbles, biting the coins until everybody was wet when we ended the carnival with “water war”. Everyone was extremely happy, especially those who won the games as they received presents.

The second anniversary of Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point was celebrated in the third Saturday of October. Students from every classes presented special items to commemorate this event. The housewives also presented their voices by singing a song, while the Singapore team played a skit. The 1.5 hour(s) celebration was ended with cake cutting ceremony. The birthday presents as well as noodles were distributed to all the guests at the end of the event.

In December 17, 2011, we celebrated this year’s Christmas. This celebration also marked the end of this academic semester. All the students involved in enlivening the program. Flashback to 2010

Easter was the first special program that we organized in 2010. At April 5, each student received an Easter theme decorated egg as their Easter presents. The story of the Easter egg  symbolizing the new life was told to the students during this event.

Starting on the third Saturday in May 2010; every month, housewives at Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point had opportunity to be educated on understanding Chinese characters. This monthly program was considered as a good starting to approach and get to know the housewives who send their sons and daughters for our English classes and always come for chit-chatting at the preaching point at every weekend afternoon. We believed that by knowing them better, they would be more easily to be evangelized. Instead of learning Mandarin, on the other Saturdays, the housewives were trained on family caring, cooking and sharing.

Next, a worship session with the theme of “Growing in Christ” was organized in June 23. This event was also the End of Semester celebration. The best students in every classes received awards as appreciation for efforts in learning English and their achievements for the particular semester.

This End of Semester event was also the English Day – a collaborated program between Bokji South Korea Methodist Church who visited Indonesia and Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point. Students learned how to warmly welcome new friends and guests. Our students and the South Korea youths spent the whole day happily with chit chatting, playing, going around Senggarang or even having meals together. This was also an opportunity for our students to practice their English by speaking to foreigners.

The people of Senggarang gave excellent feedbacks to this program. They felt that our students were not only trained theoretically on English but also on self-confidence, hospitability and the students had chances to practice the English to outsiders. As the result,  thanks God, more parents sent their kids to be educated in our preaching point.

In conjunction with celebrating Chinese Mid Autumn Festival, in September 23, we organized a drawing competition with the theme “Jesus - Light of the World”. Suprisingly, aunties and grandmothers also participated in this event although at first we only expected kids would join. Each participants received a mooncake as their presents.

The mission team from our home church, Gloria Methodist Church Medan visited us again in October 7, 2010 to celebrate our first anniversary. We and the mission team were cheerfully celebrated this birthday. They presented the Evangelism Explosion (EE) Kids program to introduce the children to the Savior – Jesus Christ. A mission video was also screened to the teens group as the evangelism approach.

We were glad to greet the brothers and sisters from Methodist Anugerah Batam to serve us with the puppet show in October 2010.

At the end of the year 2010, on Thursday - December 23, 2010, we celebrated the Christmas for the second time in Gloria Senggarang Preaching Point. The Christmas theme was “The Light Has Came”. Praise the Lord, there were around 120 kids and housewives came to this joyous occasion. This Christmas was enlivened with praise & worship session, Christmas story telling, drama, games, dance show as well as a puppet show served by theology students from Indonesia Bible Institute (I3) Malang. Our dancing team also presented their Christmas dance in the other Christmas celebrations at Filadelfia Methodist Church Tanjung Pinang and SonShine Anglican School.
